2013 Dancing Stars of Jacksonville

First off, we want to start off thanking everyone who participated and attended our 2nd Annual Dancing Stars of Jacksonville Gala for 2013! It was a huge success! Onslow Women's Center, Inc. is more than grateful for your generosity and support during October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month. With the help of our community, friends, and grantors, we are able to provide free and confidential services to women and children throughout Onslow County and surrounding areas. Events such as this are imperative to help us accomplish our goal of putting an end to domestic violence along with educating others about the cause, and why it's so important.

Dancing Stars of Jacksonville was held at the American Legion Building on Broadhurst Road in Jacksonville. The doors opened at 5PM for cocktail hour, where you could purchase drink tickets for beer, wine, and cocktail drinks (polka punch and blue suede shoes!). Vendors throughout the community donated over 65 items to our silent auction to do their part in this event.

Dinner was served at 6pm, which was buffet style provided by Golden Corral that included applewood chicken, tilapia, sirloin, veggies, potato casserole, a chocolate fountain with desserts, and peach and apple cobbler for dessert. Our guests were welcomed by Junie Christian, Executive Director of the Onslow Women's Center, Inc. and introduced to the Masters of Ceremonies, Stephanie Edwards and Elliot Potter. Stephanie and Elliot introduced our panel of judes: George Lanvermeier, Betsy Mac Moore, and Dawn Brinkley. A beautiful invocation was delivered by Pastor Brenda Vega from Victory in the Word Worship Center, and then the program began with guests greeted by Mike Yaniero, Board Chair, and Paula Redick, Board Treasurer.

Then fun began with the first set of dances from nine excited and nervous teams who did a remarkable job! They set the bar fairly high for the second set of dances after intermission. During intermission, guests wondered to cash bars and pursued the silent auction tables. Anyone also trying to vote for their favorite teams did so by handing in their voting ballots. The night was still young and everyone was anxious to see what the teams had in store for the second set of dances, so everyone began to take their seats for the second half of the evening.

After a fun and friendly dance competition throughout the night, the dancers gathered around to hear the announcement of the winners! The Dancing Star Award was given to Team Erin & Mattson, which was well deserved after their amazing gangnam style dance performance. This award was given to the team who received the total highest score of the night and impressed the judges. The People's Choice Award was given to Team John & Tiffany, who raised an outstanding $8,700 for the event. This award was given to the team who received the most votes by raising the most money.

With the help of a dedicated and excited community, Dancing Stars of Jacksonville was a sold out event for the second year in a row! Onslow Women's Center, Inc. raised over $75,000 from this event alone, which is double what the event made last year! We are extremely grateful to those who participated and those in attendance. You all made this night so memorable and everything we could have hoped for! Please call Alyson at (910) 347-4000 to purchase your DVD of the event today for $25.
